instructors

The team of instructors assisting Sensei Denis Cordeiro is very united. Senpai Sandra Senpai Samuel, Senpai Charlotte and Senpai Kateri are all students of Sensei Denis. They joined Montreal Kanreikai Karate school at about the same time and have risen through the ranks together. They know and respect each other well.

These four teachers are complementary through their respective experiences, personalities and abilities. They ensure both continuity and renewal in Montreal Kanreikai Karate teachings.

Senpai Sandra Coffey

Senpai Sandra Coffey, 2nd Dan

Senpai Sandra started her karate training in 1998 with Sensei Denis Cordeiro. Since then, her determination and desire to succeed have made her an accomplished karateka.

On October 9 2004, Senpai Sandra went to New York to fight Sensei Michelle Gay in the historic event “A Woman’s Right to Fight”. She successfully tested for her Black Belt on May 20 2005 in Danbury CT, in the presence of Grand Master Hanshi Manny Matias. In June 2010, she took her 2nd dan promotion test, becoming the first Montreal Kanreikai Senpai to reach that rank.

Senpai Sandra has been teaching karate “with passion” at our dojo since 2005. She is a dynamic and dedicated instructor, appreciated by both children and adults. As a karateka and an instructor, she is a perfect illustration of the philosophy of World Kanreikai Karate.

Senpai Samuel Bate

Senpai Samuel Bate, 1st Dan

Senpai Samuel started practicing karate with Sensei Denis Cordeiro at the age of 9. Since then, Samuel has been training with rigour and intensity. Very talented, he has participated in many tournaments, competing in both kata and fighting events.

Senpai Samuel is a very good technician in kata. He is also a strong and tough fighter who never backs down from a challenge. He is a role model for all our young students who realize – as they see him fight – that an efficient fighter relies on impeccable basic techniques.

Samuel got his Junior Black Belt on August 12 2006 in Danbury CT, following a great performance at the promotion test supervised by Hanshi Manny Matias. In August 2009, he tested for his 1st dan Black Belt, becoming the first in the World Kanreikai Karate Organization to have been promoted from Junior to Senior Black Belt.

Senpai Samuel started teaching at our dojo on a regular basis in 2007. He has since acquired lots of experience. He is very appreciated by all his students for his dynamic, rigorous and motivating classes.

Senpai Charlotte Bate

Senpai Charlotte Bate, 1st Dan

Senpai Charlotte like her brother Samuel, started practicing karate with Sensei Denis Cordeiro in 2000, just after turning 8. From the very beginning, she has been training hard, showing lots of determination even at a very young age. Senpai Charlotte has competed in many tournaments in both kata and fighting events.

She is a gifted fighter who likes to surprise her opponent with her speed and agility. Given her very precise, yet fluid technique, she quickly became a kata champion, winning numerous tournaments year after year. She is a model for all our young students starting karate at the dojo.

After an outstanding performance at the promotion test, she obtained her Junior Black Belt on August 12 2006 in Danbury CT, in the presence of Hanshi Manny Matias. More recently, in June 2010, Senpai Charlotte tested successfully for her 1st dan, becoming one of the few Kanreikai senpai to be promoted from Junior to Senior Black Belt.

Senpai Charlotte started teaching at our dojo in 2007. She is a dedicated teacher who is eager to share her technical knowledge and who easily relates to all her students.

Senpai Kateri Guertin

Senpai Kateri Guertin, 1st Dan

Senpai Kateri started training under Sensei Denis Cordeiro in late 2002. Since then, through her strong self-discipline in training and her excellent technique, she has been an inspiration to every student at our school. It does not matter how big the challenge is, Senpai Kateri will find a way to rise to it and reach beyond her limits, which is exactly what Kanreikai Karate is all about.

Her love of karate, strong determination and hard work led her to a successful 1st dan Black Belt Promotion test on August 11 2007 in Danbury CT, in the presence of Grand Master, Hanshi Manny Matias.

Senpai Kateri has been teaching at our dojo since 2007. Her patience, natural empathy and attention to detail make her an excellent teacher appreciated by young children as well as adults.
